Apostle Carl Daniel Lykes, Sr.

Apostle Carl Daniel Lykes, Sr., born the first day of April in the year of our Lord Nineteen Hundred and fifty-five. He was born to Dorothy Eliza Lykes of South Boston, Virginia.  He received a most holy rearing from his grandmother, Mother Mary Rhoda King. As a young man, he developed a spirit of excellence and diligence with the scriptures.

Bishop Lykes is a priceless masterpiece that has been a lover of God and a destined preacher since his youth, where he would hold community revivals with the community kids at the age of six and seven.  Also, at this young age of six, he received the Baptism of God (the Holy Ghost evidence speaking in other tongues and was baptized in a watery grave in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. No man is a product of himself but he is a result of the fathers and mothers that preceded him.  In this light, the Lord strategically used Bishop Lykes’ Apostolic fathers and mothers who mentored him over the years; the late Pastor Elizabeth Mills, Establishmentarian of Mayfield Apostolic Church, the late Mother Ora Schofield, Pastor of Greater Mayfield Apostolic Church, South Boston, Va.; the late Bishop Johnny H. Covington of the Power House of Deliverance Church of the Apostolic Faith, Greensboro, NC; the late Bishop Robert L. Hairston, New Bethel Apostolic Church of Martinsville, VA; and The Most Reverend J. Delano Ellis, II of the United Pentecostal Churches of Christ of Cleveland, Ohio.

Growing up in the ministry at Greater Mayfield Apostolic Church under the late Pastor Ora Schofield, Bishop Lykes realized at a young age that his life would not take the normal path and that God had a call on his life. While other youth were preoccupied with the cares of life, Bishop Lykes spent countless hours in the presence of elderly wisdom. His spiritual maturity, discipline and understanding of the Word grew exponentially.  This proved to be paramount for his destiny.

In addition to spiritual growth, Bishop Lykes was educated in the Halifax County Schools and graduated from Elon University with a Bachelor of Arts in Religion.  Additional theological studies were done at Shaw University in Raleigh, NC and attended Seminars and other Seminary events at Duke University in Durham, NC.  But most importantly, he received his BA from heaven (Born Again).  Over the years, he has been trained through spiritual warfare, pressures of life and pastoral care.  He has the unique ability to speak into the lives of people from all walks of life. These well noted areas truly qualify him to be a man of God.

In August 1994, Bishop Lykes was consecrated to the Bishopric by His Grace, Bishop William L. Washington, Presiding Prelate of the Churches of the Apostolic Faith Incorporated, headquartered in Greensboro, NC.  Bishop Lykes was affirmed an Apostle on Saturday, February 23, 2008 at 12:00 noon during the First Holy Convocation of the Apostolic Faith Churches of Deliverance by His Grace Apostle Sylvester Davis Johnson.
